6 Easy DIY Projects for Your Bathroom

The bathroom is often overlooked when it comes to home decoration. Probably because so few of us want to spend a lot of time in the same room we’ve decided our poop should go.

Nevertheless, here are some fun and inexpensive ideas that will turn the place you keep your porcelain throne into a room truly befitting royalty. Or, at the very least, it’ll give you something nice to look at the next time you forget to bring your phone in there with you.

Pallet cosmetics shelf

Ever look at a wooden pallet and think to yourself “Hey, that would make a pretty stylish shelf?” No? Me neither. That’s why neither of us could run the website Glammed Up Life, which came up with this super creative way of turning a throwaway piece of timber into a cool organizer for your bottomless collection of lipsticks, eyeliner pencils, and other can’t-live-without-it cosmetics.

Mason jar light fixtures

Normally I stay away from any DIY project that involves electricity, but the blog Joyfully Growing has come up with one that looks both simple and safe. What really sold me on it, though, was that it costs just $20 to make and oozes country chic. Who knew that you could make light bulbs fashionable?

Faux stone tub veneer

If you’ve ever seen one of those expensive bathtubs made entirely of stone and wished you could have one of your own, you’re in luck. Lovely Crafty Home has a project that will turn your little piece of Dayton real estate into a mystical hobbit hidey hole. All it takes a little hot glue and Airstone and a lot of time and patience.

Rustic rope waste bin

Not every piece of refuse in the bathroom gets flushed down the toilet. For everything else, there’s your trusty waste basket. Instead of just buying some cheap plastic thing from the nearest Dollar General, though, why not combine cute and rustic with this colorful rope-wrapped bucket dreamed up by Toolbox Divas.

Wicker basket shelves

Shelves are shelves. They serve a functional role and there’s not a lot you can do with them to make them stand out, right? Wrong. Armed with nothing but those two important assets that all great geniuses possess—imagination and, uh, wicker—Home Edit has shown us that where you keep your washcloths and Q-tips doesn’t have to be boring as, well, washcloths and Q-tips.

Homemade bath caddy

Sometimes you just want to lock the door, run yourself a nice hot bath, and relax. Maybe you’d like to read a book while you’re at it, or drink a glass of wine, or browse Facebook on your phone without worrying about dropping it in the water and having to dry it off in a bag of rice. Live the dream with this easy-to-make bathtub caddy from Instructables.
